My name's Merrick, I'm 19 and at the beginning of my journey into the world of design and furniture making. I have loved making all my life and met a woodturner in Cambridge market when I was 12. He would turn pens behind his stall and I spent hours watching and talking to him when I would visit Cambridge. When I was 14 he offered my mum a lathe to give to me for Christmas. This is what gave me my start.

When I was 17 and doing my A-Levels I started doing craft fairs to show my work. This enabled me to start making larger and more complex pieces.

I have now completed several furniture pieces as well as spending a year studying at Rycotewood Furniture School. I am currently taking a year out due to mental health issues. In this time I am running my business, Merrick Martins.
